Do I need to say the statements while tapping?

Not necessarily. You can imagine the scenario and tap, and that can still help.
That said, using statements often makes the process easier because it helps you focus on the main thing bothering you right now, the “elephant in the room.” That makes it easier to notice progress and follow the next layer as it comes up.

When do I use “I restore the right energy flow…” and when do I use “I release all my emotional attachments…”?

A simple rule:
Use “I restore the right energy flow…” for:
• emotions
• body sensations
• physical areas in the body

Use “I release all my emotional attachments…” for:
• thoughts
• fears
• beliefs
• memories
• images
• imagined future scenarios
• situations or problems

Can I use ChatGPT to help with tapping?

Yes. You can describe your problem and ask for a tapping script, or ask for help identifying possible thoughts, emotions, or layers underneath the issue.
At the same time, it is often faster to use the elephant-in-the-room process directly: focus on the problem, notice what stands out most, tap on that, and then repeat with whatever comes up next.

Can I still do this if I do not feel much emotion, or do not know exactly why I feel what I feel?

Yes.
You do not need perfect emotional access for tapping to help. Some people feel their emotions strongly. Others feel only a little. Others mostly notice thoughts, images, meanings, or body sensations.
If you do not feel much, you can still ask:
• What was I thinking?
• What felt unsafe?
• What was I afraid would happen?
• What would have been so bad?
You can also work directly with emotions and body sensations even if you do not know the full reason behind them.

Can I work only with emotions and body sensations?

Yes, absolutely.
If you notice things like shame, fear, tightness, heaviness, tension, or unease, you can work directly with that. You do not always need to know the whole story first.

Sometimes I get pulled into a very dark negative spiral. What should I do?

Do not start with the darkest thought directly.
Very often, what makes those feelings so intense is that there is also:
• fear of the feeling
• resistance to the feeling
• overwhelm about the feeling
• a desire to escape the feeling
So start there instead.
For example, you can work on:
• “I release all my resistances and aversions to accepting how I feel.”
• “I release all my emotional attachments to I cannot handle this feeling.”
Once you are less afraid of the feeling itself, it becomes much easier to process.

What if I keep tapping on something and it is not changing?

That often points to resistance.
In that case, try something like:
• “I release all my resistances and aversions to letting go of this problem.”
• “I release all my resistances and aversions to letting go of this memory.”
• “I release all my resistances and aversions to letting go of this feeling.”
Sometimes the issue is not just the problem itself, but that some part of you does not yet feel safe letting it go.

Why do I avoid tapping when I need it most, or feel no motivation to do it?

This is often a sign of overwhelm or resistance.
When you feel overwhelmed, it is natural to avoid the thing that might bring up even more emotion. You may distract yourself instead, or feel unmotivated to begin. Low motivation can also mean that some part of you sees a downside to change.
A good approach is to:
• tap on the overwhelm first
• lower the expectation
• do just a few minutes instead of trying to solve everything at once
It can also help to ask:
• What is the downside to doing this?
• What is the upside to not doing this?

What if a past memory or difficult period still feels very triggering?

You can work with past events, but do it gently.
Start by tuning into the memory, noticing the main thing that stands out, and tapping on that. If the distress does not come down, there may be resistance to letting go of that memory. In that case, you can try:
“I release all my resistances and aversions to letting go of this memory.”
If it still stays very intense, there may be a deeper reason your system is holding onto it, such as safety, control, identity, or fear of moving on. That deeper reason becomes the next tapping target.

What if I do not have clear memories, but I know a difficult period affected me?

You can still work with it.
Gather everything you do remember: flashes, people, beliefs, impressions, themes, and treat that whole cluster as one target.
You might give it a name, such as:
• “those two years from hell”
• “my bullying period”
• “that whole difficult chapter”
Then tap on that bundle instead of waiting for perfectly clear memories.

Is this approach appropriate for PTSD or trauma-based social anxiety?

It can help, because trauma-related social anxiety is often connected to specific memories and triggers.
At the same time, if tuning into a memory feels very intense and the distress keeps persisting, it is better not to force it. If the trauma feels significant or overwhelming, it is better to work with a practitioner rather than pushing through it alone.

I struggle to accept my inner child. What should I do?

Do not force acceptance.
Instead, notice how you currently feel toward that younger part of you. If you feel disgust, shame, rejection, judgment, pity, or impatience, work on those reactions first. Your thoughts and feelings toward that younger self become the tapping material.

Can tapping help with hypervigilance, self-consciousness, or presentation anxiety?

Yes.
You can take a specific issue such as anxiety in meetings, presentations, self-consciousness, or hypervigilance, and keep tapping on whatever thoughts, feelings, images, sensations, and fears come up around it.
Then test it again:
• with past situations
• in imagination
• in future situations
• and eventually in real life
That is how the process gradually retrains your nervous system.

Is it bad to try too hard to be authentic, confident, or socially skilled?

The issue is not wanting those things.
The issue is getting rigidly attached to rules like:
o “I have to be authentic”
o “I have to be confident”
o “I can’t be awkward”
o “No one should ever see me anxious”
Those rules create pressure, and pressure fuels anxiety. The goal is not to stop wanting authenticity or confidence, but to release the emotional pressure around having to be a certain way.

I overthink conversations afterward and feel guilty even when I did nothing wrong. How should I work on that?

Pick one specific recent example and work through that first.
Then test future situations and see what is still there. If the pattern is still active, that gives you the next layer to work on.

What if I yawn, space out, get brain fog, or feel detached while tapping?

These can all happen.
Yawning is often a sign that something is shifting or releasing.
Spacing out can sometimes mean dissociation, overwhelm, or resistance. In that case, you can tap on the spacing out itself, for example:
• “I release all my emotional attachments to spacing out.”
• “I release all my resistances and aversions to being in this present moment right now.”
Brain fog can also be tapped on directly if it shows up as a triggered state in the moment. If you are recovering from a dissociative disorder, though, it would be better to work with a therapist rather than trying to handle that alone.

Is indirect tapping okay, like tapping while watching TV, walking, or driving?

Yes.
Indirect tapping can help lower your general stress level over time. It is not the same as targeted tapping, but it is still useful. A good approach is to use indirect tapping to support your system overall, and direct intention tapping when you want to work on something specific.

Has mindfulness helped with tapping?

Yes, in the sense that more self-awareness helps you notice what is going on inside.
Mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and similar practices can help soothe anxiety and make you more aware of your internal experience. Tapping is especially useful when you want to work directly on the things that trigger you.

Can I use real-life triggers like songs, replays, virtual reality, old photos, or comedy as tapping material?

Yes.
Anything that reliably triggers you can become useful tapping material. If it activates your nervous system, it gives you something real to work on.

What does progress actually feel like?

Often, it feels normal.
It is not always dramatic. Sometimes you only realize afterward that a situation that used to trigger you did not trigger you this time. Even small drops in intensity matter, because they help retrain your nervous system over time.
