Well, it was like that for me too!
I used to suffer from severe social anxiety disorder.
And it was very difficult to overcome.
I tried changing my thoughts.
I faced my fears.
I meditated.
And still got little to no results.
Certain things, like hypnosis, or facing fears, gave me temporary results.
Since you’re likely familiar with my story, I won’t go into much detail here.
But it was bad.
All those fears and problems I bullet pointed above I’ve personally lived.
I’d wake up feeling dread about the day to come. Worried about who I might run into. And how awkward this would be.
How they would see my anxiety, how this would make cringe…
… and how they’d see that!
When around others, I felt like they were constantly observing me. Scrutinizing my ever move. Waiting for an opportunity to make fun of me.
Or attack me.
Or criticize me.
Taking the bus to work in the morning, I’d worry that the bus driver would ask me something. Or make a joke that I wouldn’t get.
Or that I’d do something ‘socially uncool’ for everyone in the dead-silent bus to notice.
Once I had passed the ‘driver obstacle’, the next dreadful experience was walking into the bus to find a seat. Hoping I wouldn’t see anyone I knew.
Or even worse, someone I vaguely knew who had a seat free next to him/her…
“Am I then going to sit next to them?"
“What do I say after good morning?”
“What if I run out of things to say?”
“What if it gets awkward?”
“What if he/she then tells others how awkward I was?”
“I rather not take that free seat… but if I don’t, what will they think of me? Will they think I don’t like them? Or that I’m arrogant or stuck up? Or will they see I’m anxious and avoid socializing?”

Etc.
And this was at 8 in the morning, start of the day!
I’ll spare you the rest of the day…
I had moments with certain people where I could just be myself. But they were happening less and less. My world became more and more anxious.
And I couldn’t predict when I’d get anxious again…
… or when I’d blush.
Or feel insecure, awkward, or embarrassed.
I tried to control my anxiety and feelings, but I couldn’t. It was torture.
My life was a socially anxious hell for over a decade.
It was really tough.
Especially because I initially didn’t know what was going on with me. And I of course had no clue about a possible solution.

The first light at the end of the tunnel happened when I discovered personal development.
I now had hope: I could improve myself.
This began a self-help obsession.
I began changing thoughts, saying affirmations in the mirror, and I faced some of my worst fears.
From approaching women to publicly humiliating myself, and from public speaking to getting myself rejected on purpose…
I did whatever I was told would work.
I was desperate
But after 5 years of personal development I hardly made any improvement.
I made some progress, sure.
I don’t want to disregard all I did. I had definitely become more optimistic. My thinking was a lot more empowered.
That was very helpful.
But anxiety-wise, blushing-wise, insecurity-wise…
… I was just as bad as when I started.
Then I discovered EFT tapping.
A scientifically proven to be effective technique (with over 100 studies proving its effectiveness) to rapidly release negative emotions (shame, insecurity, fear, etc)…
… and shift limiting beliefs (‘I’m not good enough’ etc.).
I saw a guy explain it on a Youtube video.
While I was very skeptical, my desperation made me look into it.
What if this could work?
Well, it did. EFT changed my life in an indescribably profound way.
That said…
… the first 6 months EFT did nothing for me.

It just had to work for me.
My first significant emotional release happened in person.
During an in-person workshop in Holland. The workshop leader had me talk about my big shame of not having a girlfriend and not having sex.
Then as I felt the shame of confessing this in front of the group (my big secret…) he had me do the tapping.
The emotions dissolved rapidly as I tapped and focused on the shame.
After 5 minutes of this, all the shame was gone!
Instead of it I now felt a deep sense of calm in my body. Something was very different now.
I felt comfortable. Accepting. At ease.
And I could talk about my big secret like it was nothing.
I wasn’t ashamed of it anymore.
Amazing!
This blew my mind.
And that one shift changed my life.
Not because it resolved my social anxiety…
…because it only decreased some of my social anxiety…
But because
I now had finally found something that worked.
I now had a technique that could release the shame, fear, anxiety and other negative emotions that kept me stuck.
The progress on my #JourneyToSocialConfidence now sped up significantly.
It still took me many years to become socially at ease.
But I made improvement.
After a few months of tapping after that workshop, I felt less anxious overall. And I got triggered less frequently too.
I then began having ‘no anxiety’ in social situations I used to feel anxious in.
I eventually managed to stop beating myself up after shitty social events…
And I began feeling more and more at ease with more and more people.
And eventually, I went from anxiety-free to effortlessly at ease.
Now I could just be myself.
Say whatever comes to mind.
Not feel the need to seek approval. Or worry about disapproval. A liberating experience, and one full of connection, fun, and ease.
Now my life isn’t perfect. For sure.
But socially, I’m thankfully totally at ease being myself. And it’s been like that for years now.
And this profound transformation didn’t just happen through tapping on my own.
I had help from a wide variety of EFT practitioners. My own high-level coach. My psychotherapist mentor. And various other resources.
After all, this was in 2006, there were no social anxiety coaches!
I had a lot of great help, and it was necessary.
I mention this because if I’d just been tapping on my own, I’d still be anxious today.
That said, if I just had sessions with my coach without EFT, I’d also still be anxious today.
It’s not either/or. We need both.
Why?
Because powerful, lasting results come from using tapping in the right way.
Tapping on the right targets.
And to find the right targets you need to have a solid understanding of the psychology of change.
You need to know how to tap.
And you need to understand the different stages on the journey to social ease.
And this wasn’t known when I started.
This is why it took me so long to get to social ease.
I had to discover what worked.
In October 2009 I had made profound changes. My social anxiety had improved significantly.
I knew EFT worked. For sure.
So I decided I was ready to start coaching others.
In hindsight, I wasn’t a great coach at all. But I had good intentions, and a powerful technique.
And since then, I studied the best in the world in EFT land, personal development, psychology, neuroscience, Eastern thought, and so on.
I took workshops all over the world.
Got supervision from EFT Masters.
Worked with my high-level coach on a weekly basis.
Got 6 years of mentoring from psychotherapist, trainer of trainers, and therapist to therapists, Dr David Lake.
And studied all I could find from different fields.
And this led to me eventually resolving all my own social anxiety.
And, to be able to help others become socially at ease too.
The way I feel socially is just this: normal.
I feel at ease, comfortable. And that’s become my new normal for many years now.
Friends I’ve met later in life have a hard time believing this was once such a problem for me, because socially I feel liberated, relaxed, comfortable.
More so than your average person.
Not saying this to brag. I’m not trying to impress you.
Just sharing with you what is possible.
And, these results are not unique to me.

And I figured that what we’d do would potentially be far more powerful than regular BB.
Why?
Because BB was discovered on EFT workshops where Gary Craig tapped on a random issue with a client. And all the workshop participants would tap along, despite having totally different issues.
For example, Gary might tap with a client who has a spider phobia.

And people in the room can’t relate to the spider phobia at all.
One might have a height phobia. Another a painful memory. The next suffers from the pain of a break-up.

Everyone remains muted, or I have one person as a volunteer.

I then help this person to release the anxiety in the moment. This usually happens quite quickly. After which I move on to the next person

But the big difference is that it now happens in this friendly, non-judgmental environment. And in this environment, we welcome all of the emotions that come up.
And as they come up, we tap through them.

In this way I work with maybe 10, sometimes even 15 different people in 90minutes.
